We begin today’s roundup with Amber Philips at The Fix and her take on today’s special election in Ohio:
President Trump won this district in the northern Columbus suburbs by 11 points in 2016, and Republicans have held onto it for decades. The election to replace longtime Republican Patrick J. Tiberi, who is leaving for a business opportunity, was supposed to be a relatively undramatic affair.
But despite everything you see on paper, this special election is competitive. That's a boldfaced data point for the increasingly conventional wisdom among independent political observers that Democrats are going to take back the majority in the House of Representatives this November. Even if Democrats only come close to winning, some are calling that a success.
Margaret Hartmann writes about the Republican candidate’s final insult:
During his final campaign stop on Monday night, Balderson told a crowd in Zanesville, Ohio that they need to get out and vote tomorrow because “we don’t want someone from Franklin County representing us.”
Balderson’s opponent, Democrat Danny O’Connor, is from Franklin County – but so are about a third of the district’s voters. The 12th District covers all of Delaware, Licking, and Morrow counties, along with parts of Franklin, Marion, Muskingum, and Richland counties.
